1) Morrisey's Sentimental Legacy: How is Morrisey a modern day Charlotte Bronte?
Sympathy, Envy, mystery, self denial, murder, madness... Bronte and Morrisey have it all! Compare "Scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen, this means you really love me" (Moz, Meat is Murder, "Rushholme Ruffians") with "deaths gates opening, showed eternity beyond: it seemed, that for safety and bliss there, all here might be sacrificed in a second. The dim room was full of visions." (Bronte, Jane Eyre pg. 357)
2)Jonny Depp's Marked Whiteness
In his movies Jonny Depp often plays the swarthy other- be it a wandering gypsy in Chocolat, a transsexual in Before Night Falls, an inhuman creation in Edward Scissorhands, or a j.d. in Crybaby. How do these roles place Jonny Depp outside the realm of "whiteness" and thus show whitenesses constructedness as a category?
